Hello everyone. Cupcake Maven Danielle here with some Sweet Ave. updates.

1. We created an AWESOME cupcake this past Friday for our Magical Mystery weekly special. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, then you already know that it was Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Super yummy, delicious cookie dough baked right into the cupcake with a chocolate chip cookie piece on top. Yumtastic. It will definitely be back. I promise!

2. Wondering what we’re doing for this week’s Magical Mystery cupcake? Well… here’s some insider information: there is a slight possibility of there being a cupcake on Friday that starts with Bacon and ends with Walnut!

3. We’re diligently working on a new website design (it looks awesome), and a new cupcake menu for April. Hopefully you’ll love the new web design & also be thrilled with the cupcakes we’re bringing back, as well as the new arrivals.

4. Friday 3/27 will be the last day Mr. Irish Cream graces us with his presence. Don’t miss your last chance to taste this beer/whiskey goodness.

5. New Jersey Monthly named us Best Vegan Bakery in their newest issue. Yippie!!

With a professed dedication to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of cupcakes,” Sweet Avenue Bake Shop makes everything from scratch daily using dairy- and egg-free ingredients and no packaged mixes or frostings. Former bankers Danielle and Jake Vance opened the Rutherford “cupcakery” (which also sells cookies) in 2007, and the shop features a different cupcake menu every day. Each creation is animal-friendly and delicious, with ingredients such as Madagascar bourbon vanilla and Belgian chocolate. Continuing our new tradition of offering a brand-new flavor every Friday as our weekly “Magical Mystery” cupcake, this past Friday we introduced Thai Coconut Curry! This bad boy is a coconut curry cake with coconut milk glaze. It basically tastes like a thai curry explosion in cupcake form, slightly spicy and savory, but also very sweet and creamy. This idea came courtesy of our loyal customer, Ethan. Thanks, Ethan!

In fact, this one went over so well we’ll probably find a place on the regular menu for it soon, so if you didn’t get to try it on Friday, don’t worry, it’ll be back!

This cupcake tier was created for a pink and brown (our colors!) themed Sweet Sixteen party at The Landmark in East Rutherford. They were mostly Little Cuties and Strawberry Fields, with a few Sexy Sadies and Chocolate Snowballs thrown in for good measure. We think cupcake tiers are a great way to add an elegant wedding-like vibe to a Sweet Sixteen. You know, without all the drunken uncles.

Check it out. We’ve got another customer with a cupcake tattoo! This one is on Nicole from Tattoos are Forever in North Arlington, NJ. That’s right, she’s the artist behind Kristina’s cupcake tattoo! She had just gotten this one done fresh the day before she stopped by and it looks awesome!

We LOVE the fact that you guys keep throwing things like this at us. We got a request for G.I. Joe cupcakes last week and we were more than happy to comply. Seriously, all we need now are Voltron and Thundercats.

They look pretty awesome, don’t they? We did an assortment of characters including Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Gung-Ho, Baroness, Cobra Commander and Storm Shadow.

So the Sweet Avenue crew took another field trip the other day. This time we went out to see Rhett Miller at Mexicali Blues in Teaneck, NJ which is an awesome funky mexican restuarant/bar/music venue. We’re HUGE fans of the Old 97s, and Rhett Miller, so we knew it would be a great show. We, of course, brought Rhett a box of cupcakes. The cupcakes did have a string attached, however. We asked if Rhett would mind playing “Our Love” and of course he pulled through for us.

The show was pretty great. Mia Riddle opened up for Rhett, and did a quick duet with him on “Fireflies.” The show was entirely acoustic, with no backing bands, so it was really nice and intimate. My personal favorite part of the show was when he stopped in the middle of “Rollerskate Skinny” to ask the crowd if he had sung the third verse yet.

We got a picture of Rhett’s setlist. It was totally awesome to see our name scrawled on there next to our request.

After the show we got to meet up with Rhett. He’s an extremely friendly guy and he said he really appreciated the cupcakes, and was saving “the ones with all the sprinkles” for his kids. The whole show was really awesome, and it was great to meet someone whose music we love as much as Rhett’s.
