Last night we went to see Ben Kweller live at Town Hall in Midtown Manhattan. We were super excited because we got in touch with Ben beforehand and made arrangements to deliver him and his band some cupcakes.

We got to head backstage, thanks to Ben and his awesome crew (thanks, Chuck!) to deliver the cupcakes to Mr. Kweller and chat with him briefly. It’s no secret we’re all big music fans here at Sweet Avenue, so it was awesome getting to meet him, and as you can see, he was pretty excited about the cupcakes!

The show was great. Opening for Ben was Jones Street Station from Brooklyn, and The Watson Twins from LA. We did make a song request from Ben in exchange for the cupcakes, however, and he pulled through by playing “Falling,” so all was good.

One of the best parts of the show was when Ben’s son, Dorian, made his way out on stage to dance along to the last song, “Penny on the Train Track.” Dorian’s dancing and summersaults got pretty much the biggest reaction from the crowd of the night.

All in all, it was a really awesome show. We just want to thank Ben for being awesome to us, and for putting on a great show.

Last week we delivered another tier of cupcakes for a baby shower. The mom-to-be loved the sage and lavender theme that we did on a previous order, and it fit perfectly with her theme, so we were more than happy to oblige. She was also able to provide a really cute moon-shaped topper for the top tier, which we think makes the whole thing look even more awesome!

I’ll let you guys in on a little secret. Ever since we started doing printed cupcakes, I’ve been secretly hoping someone–ANYONE–would ask us to design Star Wars cupcakes for them. Well, someone finally did. We were asked to do some classic and modern Star Wars characters on cupcakes for a birthday party.

Included in the bunch are Yoda, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, Rex, General Grievous, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. We really loved this order. My thirteen year old self is exceedingly jealous of the birthday boy. Hell, I’m jealous right now. Really wishing I had made an extra one of these for myself, actually.

This week we were asked to make Nightmare Before Christmas cupcakes for a birthday party. We were thrilled because we love the movie. We even spent the $15 each to catch it in 3D a couple years ago!

We were really happy with how the cupcakes turned out, so hopefully the birthday boy was too. We know we’d be pretty excited to get to dig into these on our birthday. These were, of course, done as frosting print-outs, which we have discussed previously on the blog. So come on, people, give us more awesome things to print on cupcakes!

Oh, and Danielle would personally like to add that this was her favorite order ever, because Nightmare Before Christmas is one of her favorite movies ever.
